To ease traffic congestion until the completion of the Indapur and Mangaon bypass roads on the Mumbai–Goa National Highway, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has directed immediate work to redevelop four alternative roads. A media release from the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister’s office stated that a fund of Rs 15 crore has been sanctioned for these projects. These projects will ensure smoother travel for commuters using this route.
The four alternative routes set to be redeveloped to counter congestion on the Mumbai–Goa National Highway are the following
Morba Road to Mumbai–Goa Highway
Sainagar Canal Bridge to Uttekhol Canal Village
Nizampur Canal Road to Bhadav Road (within Mangaon Nagar Panchayat limits)
Indapur Canal Road to Wigavli Phata Road on the Mumbai–Goa Highway
These roads will help counter congestion at the high-traffic areas until the bypass work is completed. All the instructions and plans were approved by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar during a high-level meeting held at Mantralaya on Wednesday.
Ajit Pawar joined the meeting virtually, while key officials including PWD Minister Shivendrasinh Raje Bhosale, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, MP Sunil Tatkare, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department Rajesh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning Department Dr Rajagopal Deora, Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department O.P. Gupta, Raigad Superintendent of Police Aanchal Dalal, and other senior bureaucrats from various departments attended the meeting at Mantralaya.
It has come to light that the meeting was a follow-up to Ajit Pawar’s on-ground inspection of the highway work in Raigad district on 18 May. During his visit to the highway, Pawar had promised swift action to address traffic issues on the Mumbai–Goa National Highway. Keeping that commitment, the meeting discussed traffic bottlenecks at Mangaon and Indapur and identified immediate solutions.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar further assured that the state government would step in with funds for necessary work if National Highways Authority funding is not available. He also emphasised the urgency of completing these alternative routes and instructed officials to expedite the process.
Additionally, the Deputy CM directed the Raigad District Collector and Superintendent of Police to ensure the deployment of adequate manpower for traffic regulation and public safety along the busy corridor.
The state’s intervention aims to improve the travel experience for thousands of commuters using the Mumbai–Goa route.
