Mumbai Police impose ban on fireworks, crackers till June 9
In a move to maintain public safety and order, the Mumbai Police have issued a strict ban on the use of firecrackers and fireworks across the city from Sunday, May 11, to June 9 (both days inclusive), a press release issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Akbar Pathan, stated.
The police added that this is a regular preventive order.
The order prohibits everyone within the Mumbai Police’s jurisdiction from letting off or throwing any firecrackers, fireworks, rockets, or similar explosive items.
Acting under the powers granted by clause (u) of sub-section (1) of Section 33, read with sub-section (2) of Section 10 of the Maharashtra Police Act (XXII of 1951), DCP Pathan has directed that the order be widely publicised. It will be announced via loudspeakers and megaphones and displayed at prominent public locations across the city.
The decision comes as part of precautionary measures to ensure law and order during the upcoming period, though specific reasons for the timing have not been officially detailed.
