Taking a decision is not a simple thing, and even when we do it, it is hard to stick to it. Today, we will discuss the 7 rules in taking decisions and how you can become an expert in that.
Take smaller decisions
One of the main issues that make people postpone things is that they often feel overwhelmed. The reason for that is that in their effort to see the bigger picture, they forget to calculate the small steps. ”Look at the forest and not at the tree” is a popular saying encouraging us to be open in order to understand things. However, as we walk through the path of life, we have to look down every now and then to see where our feet stand, otherwise, we might fall. Breaking things into pieces is a great way to make lots of things work. One of them has to do with making decisions.
Be precise about your goals
Once you identify the importance of being humble when it comes to the decisions you will make in life, you have to realize the significance of being precise. This is another golden rule that will help you become a master when it comes to making decisions.
Write down your goals
Every action should have a path with four stops. In the beginning, one has to imagine. Thinking of what you want or what you should do is the beginning of everything. The next big step is to write this down on paper. The difference between picturing it to actually having it written down so that you can see it is huge. Thirdly, talk about it. Hear yourself saying the actual words in front of people and you will be surprised to see how it feels to actually hear the real words while at the same time you expect other people’s feedback. And finally, do it. This is the last step, but all of the above have to be done if you want your plans to work always and not just sometimes.
Check on yourself every now and then
Feedback is also crucial when we want to stick up for our decisions. When we do not have someone to check on us, it is vital to do it on our own. Do not expect anyone else to be the judge of you, because you are the boss of yourself in the first place. If you adopt this behavior you will also realize that you are less sensitive to other people’s criticism and that you stand on your feet.
Do not depend on others
Asking for help when we need it is not just ok but is also essential for everyone that wants to succeed. It is also a sign that we are mature enough and that we do not have a misconception of what strength means. However, the goals you set in your life are personal. You are the one who set them, and therefore you are the one who has to serve them. No one can better conceive the importance of working hard for a specific goal than the person who has set it. If we talk about something, you want to accomplish, how can you expect that someone will work harder for that? Be realistic and independent. Regardless of how good friends you have or how supportive they are, you have to stand for what you believe in and make yourself the chief of each decision.
Celebrate every small victory
Considering yourself as the boss of yourself, think about what you expect from a boss. A leader has to be strict but also has to be understanding. If you were the manager of a certain project of a team working in a company wouldn’t you invite them to celebrate together when the project was completed? A similar rule applies here, but this time it concerns yourself. Gatherings and celebrations in big companies have certain reasons why they are so vital for the team, and the same rule applies to the relationship you have with yourself and your decisions.
Finally, keep in mind that there is no better judge of a decision than the person who takes it. Only you know all of the little details that led you to take that decision so move on, trust your instinct, and believe n yourself.
